Story

In August 2017, I'll be swapping Jakarta's dirty smog for the clean air of central Australia, and trekking over 83km along the Larapinta Trail to help raise money for research into pancreatic cancer and other gastrointestinal cancers.

Pancreatic cancer has hit my family twice - it killed my dad, Peter Harvey, four years ago, just a year after it killed my wife's stepfather, ABC legend Ian Carroll.

I didn't know much about the disease before it hit Ian - I just knew it was bad news. Now, I know that the survival rate is shockingly low (8 per cent live for five years, compared to 90 per cent for breast cancer or 99 per cent for prostate cancer). But most people don't survive anywhere near five years - dad lived for about three months after diagnosis.

More money is desperately needed to fund research to help the next generation of Peter Harveys and Ian Carrolls. It's why I donate each month to the GI Institute, and why I'm doing this trek.

All donations are tax deductible. Please help me to get to the finish line by donating today!

Thank you.
